I’m excited to announce my next art exhibit! Well, it’s not quite an exhibit, it’s even BETTER. It’s actually a benefit called “Evelyn’s Voice • An Evening of Hope” that our family (ok, they’re friends, but basically family) is having at Gray 1908 + Juniper Market. The benefit event is for our sweet girl, Evie, (Jensen’s womb-friend!) who is living every day with Rett Syndrome. If you haven’t heard of this Syndrome, that’s pretty normal, it’s a rare disease that not many people know about (which is why we’re having this event).
Rett Syndrome is a genetic neurological disorder that occurs almost exclusively in girls. After birth, girls with Rett Syndrome have 6 to 18 months of apparently normal development before suffering severe, rapid degeneration resulting in problems with language and communication, learning, coordination, eating and other brain functions. Girls can ultimately lose the functioning use of their hands, walking ability and speech. Other signs and symptoms that can develop include breathing abnormalities, seizures, scoliosis and sleep disturbances. The rapid period of regression is followed by a long period of stabilization that can last the remainder of their lives.
There are many ways to get involved with the event. You can make a donation for the auction, become a sponsor, or spread the word to your community. Please visit Evelyn’s Voice to find out how you can help. I will be donating 100% of the proceeds from the sales of three new oil paintings to Girl Power 2 Cure, a nonprofit organization funding research to cure Rett (and HELLO, they’ve found reversals in their studies, so they’re quite literally on the brink of finding a cure—the only thing standing in the way is moo-lah, per usual). By the end of the week, the paintings are available to pre-order through the shop tab.
Let’s all help Evie find her voice by being her voice.
